Los Angeles, CA — The Tigers women's basketball team was in action against the Austin College Kangaroos at home on Wednesday afternoon.

Quick baskets from Gabriela Etopio, Dara Tokeshi, and Ainsley Shelsta helped Oxy get out to a 13-2 lead to start the game. Toni Thompson then converted on an and-1 opportunity and Paige Yasukochi followed with a made jumper to close the 1st quarter out with a 18-4 lead for the Tigers.

Austin College would respond in the start of the 2nd quarter with an 8-1 run on offense. Toni Thompson stopped the bleeding with a made jumper and added another point at the free throw line later after being fouled.

Dominique Cabading hit her first of 3 three-pointers in the 2nd quarter to get Oxy's lead back up to 9 points. Dara Tokeshi would hit a big three at the end of the half to send the Tigers into the locker room with a 30-20 lead.

Austin College would fight their way back into the game with a stretch of good defense and got the lead down to 5 points with 3 minutes remaining in the quarter. Oxy quickly responded with a 10-0 run to close the quarter including two made layups from Ainsley Shelsta and a made three-pointer from Dara Tokeshi.

In the 4th quarter the lead would get up to as large as 20 points after Micah Elegores cashed in on a three-point attempt. After the Kangaroos cut into the lead slightly, Dominique Cabading made a three-pointer to put an end to their small run. Austin College would make two three-pointers to close the game but Oxy secured the 61-49 win at home.

Toni Thompson put together another great game for Oxy with 21 points and 15 rebounds. The Tigers were shooting well from deep with 6 made three-pointers with 3 from Cabading, 2 from Tokeshi and 1 from Elegores.

Michelle Lagunas-Monroy was finding open teammates in the game, leading Ocy with 4 assists in the game. Oxy will be back in action on Wednesday, December 20th at 12pm in Rush Gymnasium against Whitworth College.
