Los Angeles, CA – The Occidental women's basketball team hosted the Pomona-Pitzer for their second round match-up against the Sagehens. It was a very competitive game with the Tigers falling behind in the first half. This didn't stop them from continuing on in the game and pushing back against the Sagehens. The Tigers truly popped off in the final quarter where their hard work all game began paying off, earning themselves the win of the night.

First-year, Ainsley Shelsta, had another amazing performance, leading the Tigers with a double-double earning 20 points and 17 rebounds. In addition to Shelsta, Maylene Hughes was the second leading scorer with 10 points, and Michelle Lagunas-Monroy was second in rebounds with 13.

Overall, the Tigers' ability to rally and lock in late in the game shows the extreme grit these players have to secure a win. The team earned a 76.2% on free throws, which was higher than their season average of 65.9%.

Emily Church represented the Sagehens well by being the leading scorer with 19 points. Church also led in rebounds with 7.

The Tigers will be celebrating their two seniors, Maylene Hughes and Kiarra Young, at Rush Gym on Saturday, February 11 against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 2:00 p.m.
