Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental men's soccer team was at home on Patterson Field to take on the California Lutheran University Kingsmen.Â
Both Oxy and Cal Lu came out firing with multiple shots in the early moments of the game. Riley Nyhan was called on to make two saves on the Kingsmen's shots as he kept the game scoreless.Â
The Tigers were creating shot opportunities often in the 1st half as they outshot Cal Lu 10 to 5 in the half, but the shots were either just off or saved by the keeper. Nyhan tallied two more saves to total 4 in the half as the game would go into halftime with a 0-0 score.
Oxy would come out firing in the 2nd half as Joey Schwartz took a shot that had to be blocked by a Cal Lu defender to keep it from going in. Only a little over a minute after this shot Aiden Aley found himself with a scoring opportunity after Oury Diane set him up perfectly and Aley chased it in to give the Tigers the lead.Â
Oxy was playing strong defense and Nyhan had made two more saves early on in the 2nd half, but Cal Lu was determined to keep the pressure on the Tigers. In the 70th minute, the Kingsmen were able to capitalize and score the equalizer with only 20 minutes left in the game.Â
Oxy turned up their defense and also got off four shots after the score was tied but each was just slightly off from giving Oxy the lead back. The Kingsmen would fail to get off a shot after scoring the tying goal and the game would come to an end in a 1-1 tie.Â
Oxy moves to 4-0-1 in SCIAC play and will look to get a win when La Verne comes to town on Saturday, September 30th at 7pm.
