Los Angeles, CA — The Tigers were in action on a Sunday afternoon against Marymount University looking for their first win of the new season. In the most competitive preseason poll, the Tigers were voted to win the conference title by the SCIAC head coaches. After coming in second place in the 2022 Championship game last season, the team is highly motivated and stronger than ever. If Oxy secures the conference title this season, it will be the first time in program history.
Oxy got off to a great start with a goal in the first four minutes of the game when Joey Schwartz perfectly placed a pass that allowed Christain Corcoran to use a header to put it past the Saints goalie and into the back of the net.Â
The Tigers were playing sharp defense throughout this match and the combined goalie pay of Joseph Bassett and Riley Nyhan as well as Tiger defenders allowed Occidental to get their first shutout of the season.Â
While the defense of the Tigers was on point, the offense was also putting together great passes and getting solid looks at the goal. Oxy had 14 shots on the game and 6 of them were on goal, forcing Saints to make saves on 4 of them.Â
The second Tiger goal came late in the game when Oury Diane made fantastic dribble moves to maneuver past Marymount defenders, including the goalie to then have a wide open look at the goal and put into the back of the net to double the Oxy lead.Â
Oxy will look to build on a great performance that led to the first win of the season for the Tigers when they play on Wednesday night against the Master's University Mustangs.
