Los Angeles, CA— The Oxy women's basketball team played the Southern California Leadership University Rhinos in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.Â
The Tigers would take over the game early in this one, scoring the first 8 points of the game and were leading the Rhinos 25-9 after the end of the 1st quarter. Oxy was playing great team basketball and getting everyone involved on the offensive end.Â
In the 2nd quarter, SCLU was not able to get a rhythm going on offense to create a run that would get them back into the game and the Tigers were up 52-24 at halftime. Oxy would maintain a large lead for the remainder of the game and eventually win by a score of 93-41.Â
Dominique Cabading was leading the Tigers on offense as she finished with 8 assists in the game to go along with 6 made field goals including 5 3-pointers to total 17 points. Paige Yasukochi scored 15 points and also had 4 steals.Â
Amaia McCoy nearly finished with a double double with 12 points and 9 rebounds to go with 3 assists. Dara Tokeshi was also on fire from 3-point range in this one, making 5 3-pointers and scoring 24 points to lead the Tigers in scoring.Â
Michelle Lagunas-Monroy had a great all around game for Oxy with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. NIcole Vanegas scored 8 points for the Tigers and had 2 rebounds. Overall as a team, Oxy shot 49.3% from the field and 50.0% from 3-point range and the team totaled 32 assists.Â
The Tigers will look to continue their strong play when they resume conference play on Wednesday, January 24th in Orange against the Chapman University Panthers at 7pm.
