LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Women's soccer dropped its Wednesday night contest, 3-1 to Claremont-M-S at Patterson Field, October 16.
Â
The Tigers played an impressive first half of ball, holding CMS scoreless, keeping attacks even at seven shots to four shots in favor of the Athenas. It was a five-minute stretch in the second half that made the difference.
Â
The Athenas tallied all three goals between the 57
th and 62
nd minutes. The first came after a punt from the Oxy keeper found the head of a CMS midfielder then then an Athena right foot and the back of the net. Less than two minutes later an Athena corner resulted in a header goal, and déjà vu, the third CMS goal was another header from the same Athena on a corner.
Â
Oxy came back on the attack later in the game as
Anna Fukushima tallied her first goal of the season to salvage the shutout.
Malia DeCastro placed a perfect pass into the box for Fukushima to do the rest.
Â
The Tigers fell to 0-8-2 with the loss and 0-7-1 in SCIAC play. The Athenas picked up three points in conference with the victory and sit a point behind Pomona-Pitzer in third place in the SCIAC.
