LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Women's volleyball continues to battle at the end of the season, picking up a hard-fought 3-1 loss to Whittier on Tuesday, October 29. Set scores were 19-25, 14-25, 25-22, 18-25.

The Tigers played well to open the game, pacing the Poets with 12 kills in the first set. Oxy kept it close at 20-19, but Whittier rattled off a 5-0 run to end the first sent.

While Oxy couldn't get much going in the second set, the third set was an impressive display of grit, coming back from a six-point deficit to salvage a set. At 20-14 a Poet attack error started an 11-2 run to finish off the frame.

During the run,
Anna Curtis-Revelle got the Tiger offense going with a kill, then
Aniya Hawthorne, who led the squad with 10 kills on the night, kept it rolling, tying the set at 21. Whittier followed with four consecutive attack errors to give Oxy the set victory.

Oxy kept its momentum heading into the fourth, taking an early 6-5 lead, but the Poets took control of the remainder of the set and held the lead until the end.

Around the floor,
Aniya Hawthorne hit .368, bringing her season hitting percentage up to .290.
Katelyn Cajigas was second on the team with nine kills, hitting over .200.

With the loss, the Tigers fell to 3-15 on the season and 0-11 in SCIAC play. Oxy has five matches remaining in the season, and two this week. The squad will travel to Chapman on Friday, November 1. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. The Tigers host Cal Lutheran on Saturday, November 2 at 6 p.m.
