LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Women's volleyball dropped its match against Cal Lutheran at home on Saturday, November 2, 3-1, with set scores of 18-25, 14-25, 28-26, 24-26.
Â
Down 24-20 in the third set, the Tigers were hung out to dry. After an Arianna Carranza kill to cut the deficit to three, Elianna Channel strung together three-straight blocks, two assisted by
Georgia Schmidt, to tie the set at 24. After a few lead changes, the Tigers pulled away and took the third set victory for the third consecutive home game.
Â
The Tigers saw similar success in game four. After a 7-0 Regal run to take a 15-8 lead in the set, Oxy strung off a 6-0 run of its own. The Tigers were led in the set by Carranza and
Elizabeth Hermosillo who both picked up four kills in the frame – Hermosillo tied her season-high with nine kills on the night.
Â
Cal Lutheran led most of the way through the set, though by small margins, heading into the 20s. Like déjà vu, the Tigers tied it back up at 24 for the second-straight set. Two consecutive kills from the Regals outsides, however, ended the match.
Â
Around the floor, Carranza led the Tigers with 12 kills.
Aniya Hawthorne picked up six. Channel tallied four kills and eight total blocks – six assisted and two solo. Saturday marked the Tigers' best game at the net with a season-high 21 total blocks.
Â
After winning only one set the first time through the conference slate, the Tigers have rattled off five straight matches winning at least one set. The improvement stems from the squads' grit and never-say-die attitude.
Â
Three games remain on the slate for women's volleyball, still looking for that elusive first conference win. The Tigers are 3-17 on the season and 0-13 in SCIAC play. They travel to La Verne on Tuesday, then are back home for the final time of 2024 to host Redlands on senior night at 7 p.m.
