LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Men's basketball won its season opener, a non-countable contest against Southern California Leadership University, on Wednesday, November 7, 81-79 in overtime.
 
A game at a 68-68 deadlock at the end of regulation saw Nicky Clotfelter take over to get the Tigers the win. Clotfelter tallied three buckets and picked up eight points in the final five minutes of the game.
 
The Tigers and Rhinos went back and forth all night. Oxy led by one at the half, then led by as many as nine closing in on the first media timeout. From there, the Rhinos closed the gap and kept the score within a few points.
 
Nasir Luna's 20 points led the Tigers as the first year opened his Oxy career with a big performance. He led the Tigers with three triples.
 
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, November 9 against Stanton. They play game two of a double header with the women's team. Tip off is set for 4 p.m.
