LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Men's soccer dropped its SCIAC semifinal match to No. 2 seeded Claremont-M-S on Thursday, November 7, 2-1.
Â
The Tigers scored a late goal with 15 minutes to go in regulation and fired off 12 shots to the Stags' 11, but it was too little too late as the 2-0 deficit in the second half was too much to overcome.
Â
The game opened with both teams firing, similar to the 3-3 tie they played to on Patterson field on October 23. Each keeper had a save within the first six minutes of the contest, while the Tigers put two early shots on goal.
Â
As the half wore on the two teams got into it with 10 fouls and two cards in the half.
Â
Coming out of the half was more of the same until the 63
rd minute the Stags broke through, then added one more for insurance in the 67
th.
Â
The Tigers would not quit, however, as
Andrew Notter placed two shots on goal in the next seven minutes. One found the back of the net to make it a one goal game in the 76th minute.
Â
Oxy failed to get anything going in the final 14 as the Stags stifled the Tigers' goal scoring opportunities. Notter's goal at 75:58 was the final shot of the game on either side.
Â
With the loss, the Tigers are eliminated from the SCIAC tournament and will likely end the season 9-3-6 overall. They have an outside shot at an at-large bid, but are ranked in the final slot, seventh, in NCAA Division III Region X.
