Men's basketball welcomes Red Dragons December 19

12/18/2024 10:09:00 AM

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Men's basketball is back in action on Thursday, December 19, taking on SUNY Oneonta in a Division III non-conference matchup.

The game marks the Tigers' final contest before the Holidays, beginning an 11-day break. Before that, however, Oxy takes on a 5-3 Red Dragon squad with losses to No. 25 Williams – a team that handled Pomona-Pitzer swiftly in the NCAA tournament two seasons ago – and RV Oswego State.

WEST COAST BEST COAST
The Tigers will try to feed off home court advantage as the New Yorkers' first game of the trip is against Oxy on Thursday.

The Red Dragons are 1-2 on the road and 0-2 outside of Oneonta, beating only Hartwick College, an institution just down the road, 100-87 in the season opener.

EXPLOSIVE OFFENSE
Occidental is coming off a 73-point win over Cal Miramar on Friday, December 13. The Tigers exploded for 114 points in the blowout victory.

Alex McCleery Brown continues to impress. The first year tallied 22 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. He received SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week with the stellar performance, adding a steal to his ledger.

Ethan Hanning had his best game of the season, scoring at will against the Fighting Falcons. He was lethal under the rim, making 8-of-11 attempts from two-point range.

MATCH OUTLOOK
The Tigers are 1-2 in Division III contests this season, with their only win coming against Caltech by 27. Their 13-point loss to Schreiner bodes better than it looks with the Mountaineers excelling to a 7-1 record early in the season. The Tigers also dropped a close one to Whittier on December 4 in their only SCIAC contest.

A win over the Red Dragons gives confidence to a Tiger team that's suffered some narrow losses through the first six games of the season.
