Los Angeles, CA — Nobel University made their second trip out to Rush Gym this season to take on the Oxy women's basketball team on New Year's Eve.
The Tigers were able to jump out to a quick 11 point lead by the end of the 1st quarter, led by Ainsley Shelsta's five first quarter points. Oxy was applying defensive pressure with a full court press that the Nobel was unable to get an offensive rhythm against.
The lead would swell up to as high as 25 points for Oxy in the 3rd quarter and the Knights would never get the game back into a single digit deficit.
Oxy went on to defeat Nobel 78-56, defeating the Knights for the second time in as many meetings. Shelsta and Dara Tokeshi led the way with 15 points each, and Shelsta added 17 rebounds.
The Tigers were working their way to the free throw line often, making 14 free throws in the game. The defense was also strong for Oxy, holding Nobel to 38.5% shooting in the game.
Emily Ko had a strong performance in a starting role, scoring 8 points and grabbing 9 boards. Michelle Lagunas-Monroy scored 11 points on 4 of 7 shooting and also dished out 4 assists.
Oxy moves to 5-5 on the year with the win, and they will next take the court on Saturday, January 4th against the Caltech Beavers in their third conference match up of the year.
