Los Angeles, CA – In a dominant display of skill and teamwork, the Occidental women's lacrosse team triumphed over Calvin University in a resounding victory last week.
Right from the opening whistle, the Tigers set the tone for the game, with Halle Knutson wasting no time in finding the back of the net within the first minute and a half. However, Calvin's Audrey Booher quickly responded with a goal of her own. The back-and-forth battle continued briefly before Oxy took control of the game, surging ahead to a commanding 8-2 lead by the end of the first period.
The momentum remained firmly with the Tigers as they entered the second period, where they continued to outclass their opponents, extending their lead to 15-4 by halftime. Crucial to their success was their dominance in draw controls, with Oxy securing 20 compared to Calvin's nine. Leading this charge with precision was Maeve Moylan, who single-handedly claimed seven draw controls. She was closely followed by Bella Kwan and Olivia Okamoto, each contributing three of their own.
The offensive prowess of the Tigers was on full display, with three players securing hat tricks: Knutson with three goals, Okamoto with four goals, and Moylan with three goals. Additionally, they showcased their versatility as each of them racked up assists as well.
Goalkeeper Andie Angelacci played a vital role in maintaining Oxy's comfortable lead, making five crucial saves and causing a turnover to keep Calvin at bay.
