La Verne, CA— The Tigers traveled to La Verne on Saturday for a doubleheader against the ULV Leopards.
Declan Sklut got the start on the mound for the Tigers and worked his way out of trouble after allowing two singles in the first inning but got a huge strikeout to get out of the jam. Oxy got on the board first when Alex Henderson homered to right center to lead off the 2nd inning and make it 1-0 Tigers.Â
Sklut locked in and did not allow a hit in the 2nd or 3rd innings, including 2 more strikeouts of Leopard batters. ULV would tie the game at 1 by picking up a two-out single to score a runner from 2nd base.Â
The Leopards scored 4 runs in the 6th inning to take a 5-1 lead, but Oxy responded in the top of the 8th inning. Oxy took advantage of a 2-out error by stringing three hits together afterward from Henderson, Jeffery Cambra, and Garrett Palme to score 2 runs and make it a 2-run game.Â
ULV would score runs in their half of the 8th and go on to win 8-3. Alex Henderson had a great game at the plate for Oxy, going 3-4 with a solo home run, 2 RBIs and a run.Â
Declan Sklut had a strong start on the mound for Oxy, pitching 7 innings, striking out 5 and allowing 4 earned runs. Oxy is now 3-2 in SCIAC play and will look to bounce back in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader in La Verne.
