Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Tigers Relentless Against Whitman

After a challenging game against Claremont-Mudds-Scripps Colleges, the Occidental women's lacrosse team bounced back and had a massive non-conference win over the Whitman College Blues. Occidental was truly unstoppable, scoring six goals in the first quarter and answering back the Blues' lone goal with a twelve goal run. The final score was 20-1 Tigers.

The Tigers dominated, but it was a true team effort: nine people scored and twelve of the team's twenty goals were assisted. Sophomore attacker, Olivia Okamoto, led the team with five goals and was second in overall points. Two other Tigers had hat tricks during the game: senior attacker and captain, Halle Knutson, and sophomore midfielder, Ava Whelan. Knutson had an incredible game, leading the team in overall points (7) and assists (4). Overall, she assisted 20% of the Tiger's goals and directly contributed to 35% of their goals.

Additionally, Occidental controlled the midfield, winning in overall ground balls and draw controls. Sophomore midfielder, Maeve Moylan, led the team's success on the draw circle with seven draws. Moylan's leadership led the team to win approximately 74% of all draws during the game. Sophomore defender, Sydney Acol, also had a stellar game leading the team in ground ball pick-ups (3) and caused turnovers (3). Junior attacker, Emma Cho, and sophomore midfielder, Elise Mahoney also had three caused turnovers.

When the ball was on the Tigers' defensive end, they shut down the Blues. Junior goalie, Andie Angelacci had seven saves and only one goal against her, totaling an incredible 88% save percentage. Additionally, Angelacci successfully orchestrated 100% of the team's clears.

Overall, it was a great game for the Tigers with tremendous teamwork and leadership across the field. It was also a game of firsts for two first-year Tigers. Evie Kim and Kelly Peir both had crucial contributions to the team's success; Kim on the draw circle (with four draws for the Tigers) and Peir scoring her first two collegiate goals back-to-back off assists from Knutson.

Many of the Tigers were lucky to share their win with their families who came out to support them during their Spring Break games.
