Pasadena, CA— The Tigers entered game three with a chance to take all three games of their series with Caltech on Sunday afternoon. Oxy got off to a strong start in the game by striking for 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st.
The inning was highlighted by a 2-out RBI single to right field from Thomas Munch that brought Garrett Palme in to score the 4th run. Oxy scored another run in the 2nd inning when Lou Martineau brought in Nicholas Gonzalez with an RBI groundout.
Meanwhile on the mound, Jackson Short was pitching extremely well for the Tigers, allowing only 3 hits and no runs through the first 3 innings. The Tigers would score 2 more runs in the 7th inning, after Martineau and Tyler Kubo both walked and advanced to second and third base on a double steal and Ryan Cacatian brought home Martineau with a sac fly. Kubo would then score on a passed ball to make it 7-0 Tigers.
Oxy would secure the win by mercy rule in the 8th inning when Ben Rutkin hit a 3-run home run to bring home Martineau and Gonzalez to secure an 11-0 Tiger win to secure the 3-game sweep of the Beavers.
Short finished the game pitching seven innings, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out six batters earning his first collegiate pitching win. Wyatt Zadoorian pitched a hitless 8th inning and struck out one batter.
The Tigers start 3-0 in SCIAC play and will next take on the Montclair State University Red Hawks in a 3 game series from March 8-10th at home at Anderson Field.
