Los Angeles, CA – On Wednesday, April 10th, Occidental's lacrosse team played the University of Redlands in their second round of conference match-ups this season. While the Tigers only had a two goal lead at the end of the first quarter, they remained consistent and relentless and ran away with the game in the fourth quarter. The final score was 22-11 Tigers.
After the whistle, sophomore midfielder, Maeve Moylan, won the first draw control of the game and got it on the Tigers' attacking end. Just 22 seconds later, junior attacker Gabriella Acker scored the first goal of the game off of a hard drive to goal. The following two goals were free positions scored by attackers Olivia Okamoto and Emma Cho. Given the Tigers' early momentum, they were never down during the game.
Okamoto, Cho, and junior attacker, Dylan Herbert, led the Tigers' with four goals each, but overall, nine players on Occidental's team saw the back of the net. Acker and Moylan also had hat tricks and continued to lead their team after the first play. Of the Tigers' 22 goals, seven were assisted, with senior attacker and captain Halle Knutson leading the team in assists (2). Six of Occidental's goals were off of free position shots, totalling a 75% scoring average on eight meter opportunities.
Remarkably, of the games' 36 draw controls, the Tigers won 81% (29/36). Leading the Tigers was Moylan (with 17) and first-year defender Evie Kim (with 9). During the game, Moylan broke the single game draw control record for Occidental which was previously held by Alessandra Pelliccia who won 13 draw controls in one game. This was not just another victory, it was a record breaking night for the Tigers.
