Los Angeles, CA— The Occidental Tigers baseball team hosted the Whittier College Poets for a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon.Â
Oxy got on the board first in the 1st inning when Alex Henderson doubled to left center to score Miles Capobianco and Jackson Short. Whittier would respond by getting a run back in the 2nd, but Oxy came back and scored 5 runs in their half of the inning.Â
Thomas Munch got it started in the 2nd inning with a 2-run home run to left field, and Jackson Short followed with an RBI double to right center. Ryan Cacatian later had a sacrifice fly that scored Jackson Short.Â
Jeffery Cambra capped off the big inning with an RBI single to center that scored Miles Capobainco. Oxy tacked on another run in the bottom of the 3rd to get their lead to 8-1. The Poets scored 2 in the 4th before Oxy had another big inning in the 5th inning, bringing 5 runs in to score.
The 5th and 6th innings were highlighted by RBI singles from Alex Henderson, Tyler Kubo, Nick Gonzalez, and Logan Rooney and Oxy would lead 14-3 after the 6th inning. The Poets would begin to rally to get back into the game with a big 7th inning, but Tiger pitching stopped the damage and Oxy held on to a 14-9 win.Â
The Tigers will be in action again for another non-conference matchup on Wednesday, April 24th at 3pm against Southern California Leadership University.
