Claremont, CA— Occidental College softball played the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in the last SCIAC game of the season in 2024.
The Tigers threatened to score in the 1st inning after back to back walks to Phylicia Pedrosa and Sophia Siu put runners at 1st and 2nd base with two outs, but the Pomona pitcher was able to induce a 2 out strikeout to end the threat.
The Sagehens would score a run in the 1st and add one more in the 2nd inning to take a 2-0 lead in the game. Oxy would respond quickly in the top of the 3rd inning after a lead off walk to Sydney Crespo and a single from Alysha Wagner put runners on the corners with no one out.
Pomona turned a double play on the following play, but the Tigers rallied with two outs thanks to a single from Phylicia Pedrosa and a clutch triple from Sophia Siu that scored two runs to tie the game.
Ava Quezada would bring home Siu with a single to left field and the Tigers would take a 3-2 lead in the 3rd inning. In the bottom half of the inning, tha Sagehens would strike with their own two out rally that put 3 runs on the board to give Pomona a 5-3 lead.
Pomona would score in the bottom of the 5th inning to extend the lead to 9-3. In the top of the 7th inning, Oxy would get a lead off single from Kaitlyn Suarez, but an unfortunate double play occurred on a hard hit line drive hit by Jordan Lebsock. Sydney Crespo would single to extend the game but the Sagehens would record the last out of the game and win by a score of 9-3.
Zada Day-Adams and Sam Alfaro each pitched 3 innings for the Tigers in this game, and the Tigers totaled 6 hits on offense from 6 different players. Sophia Siu led the Tigers with her 2 RBIs and Ava Quezada had one RBI as well.
