Claremont, CA— The Oxy Lacrosse team traveled for a road matchup against the #1 seeded Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in the semifinal game of the SCIAC postseason tournament.
Occidental earned the 4th seed in the SCIAC by playing to a 7-5 record in SCIAC games and Pomona-Pitzer came into the semifinal game as the two-time defending champions and an undefeated SCIAC season in 2024.
Within the first two minutes of the game, Oxy's Bella Kwan took a shot on goal that would've put the Tigers on the board first but the Sagehen goalie made an impressive save to stop the shot. After a successful clear attempt by Pomona, teh Sagehens also took a shot on goal that was saved by Oxy's First Team All-SCIAC goalie Andie Angelacci.
Oxy nearly got on the board again minutes later when Maeve Moylan had a ground ball pickup before firing a shot that nearly missed the goal and went off the crossbar. Pomona would get on the board first minutes later and would lead 4-0 after the 1st quarter.
In the 2nd quarter, Maeve Moylan nearly scored for the Tigers once again, but the Pomona-Pitzer goalie made another nice save to keep Oxy from scoring. The Sagehens and Tigers would head into the halftime break with Pomona up by a score of 13-0.
Oxy would score a goal in the 4th quarter on a nice pass from Gabriella Acker to Bella Kwan who finished off the play with a shot into the back of the goal. The Sagehens would go on to advance to the Championship game of the SCIAC tournament by defeating the Tigers 24-1.
Oxy had an impressive first season under Head Coach Sierra Slack that resulted in a SCIAC tournament appearance with a tie for the 3rd best record in the conference, and four Tigers being named to All-SCIAC teams. The Tigers will look forward to the 2025 season with much anticipation.
