Tigers Run Away with 24-10 Win Over Regals

Los Angeles, CA – In a riveting display of athleticism and strategy, the Occidental women's lacrosse team clashed with the California Lutheran University Regals on April 20, 2024, in a highly anticipated matchup as the regular season neared the close.  Oxy hosted CLU on Patterson Field, ultimately securing a resounding victory with a final score of 24-10.

From the opening whistle, both teams exhibited formidable determination, setting the stage for an intense battle on the field.  The first half saw a tightly contested affair, with the Tigers maintaining a slim lead as they headed into the halftime break with a score of 13-8.  Between the first and second period, the Regals tightened their defensive ranks, aiming to stymie the Tigers offensive onslaught.  This effort proved successful as they Oxy went from scoring eight goals in the first period to only five goals in the second, while CLU remained consistent on scoring with four per period.

Following the halftime interlude, Oxy emerged with renewed vigor, swiftly finding the back of the net twice before allowing CLU a chance to respond.  Spearheaded by an impressive defensive performance marked by enhanced communication and strategic acumen, the Tigers stifled the Regals' offensive advances, conceding only one goal apiece in the third and fourth quarters.

Leading the charge for the Tigers were standout performers Dylan Herbert and Maeve Moyland, each showcasing their offensive prowess by tallying four goals and one assist, culminating in five points each.  Halle Knutson also made significant impact, notching three goals and three assists for a total of six points, while Bella Kwan contributed four points with a pair of goals and assists.

In terms of the possession game, Evie Kim and Moylan distinguished themselves with their relentless pursuit, each securing an impressive nine draw controls.  Additionally, Kim showcased her defensive skill with three ground balls, while Moylan contributed two ground balls and a caused turnover, further bolstering Oxy's defensive efforts.

In the cage, the Tigers were anchored by the exceptional goaltending tandem of Andie Angelacci and Grace Morrow.  Angelacci demonstrated her shot-stopping abilities with nine saves in the first three periods, while Morrow made a crucial save out of only two shots on goal in the final period, solidifying Oxy's commanding victory.
