Los Angeles, CA — Men's water polo took on the Mount Sac Mounties on Friday night in De Mandel Aquatics Center.Â
Mt. Sac took a quick 2-0 lead but Danny Miller responded with two quick goals of his own to tie the game in the 1st period. The game was back and forth and closely contested throughout.Â
Aiden Cawley scored the next two goals for Oxy, before Miller got back in on the scoring action to secure a hat trick in the game and give Oxy a 5-3 lead at the time early on in the 3rd quarter.Â
The Mounties responded by scoring the next two goals of the game to even the score at 5. Miller would score his 4th goal of the game to return the lead to Oxy and Travis Hughes added on to it with a goal of his own to make the score 7-5.Â
After Mt. Sac cut into the lead with a goal, Cawley would score his 3rd goal of the game for the Tigers to extend the lead back out to 2. The Mounties refused to go away and would score to cut the lead down again, but Travis Hughes would score his 2nd goal to make the Tiger lead 9-7 at the beginning of the 4th period.
With the Tigers only up 9-8 later in the 4th period, Travis Hughes deposited his 3rd goal of the game into the back of the net to extend the lead. Later on Jacob Carlson secured the Tiger win by scoring a goal assisted by Hughes to extend the Tiger lead to 3 goals with just over 2 minutes to go in the game.
Oxy wins their second game in a row, being led by Danny Miller's 4 goals and hat tricks from Aiden Cawley and Travis Hughes. The Tigers' next game will be on September 22nd against Austin College at De Mandel Aquatics Center at 9:30am.
