LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Women's volleyball dropped its second consecutive SCIAC match – first of which at home – 3-0 to No. 10 Claremont-M-S on Saturday, September 28, with set scores of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-12.
The Tigers came to plat early in the first, hitting a game-high .107. Oxy led most of the way through with the teams trading the lead back-and-forth, but a 6-1 Athena run to close the frame set the tone for the remainder of the match. The Tigers finished sets two and three in the negative, and only two players with more than nine attacks hit above zero.
Eliana Channell, a bright spot in the middle for the Tigers, hit .286 with six kills and a pair of blocks. Channell was one of two Tigers, including
Ariana Carranza, with six kills.
In the third, the Tigers amounted a pair of electric rallies, ending in points to fire up the home faithful on Youth Night, but the Athenas took care of business for the sweep.
With the loss, Oxy fell to 3-6 on the season and 0-2 in SCIAC play. Claremont-M-S picked up its second SCIAC win in as many attempts and improved to 7-3 in 2024.
The Tigers return to the court on Tuesday in Claremont to take on Pomona-Pitzer.
