SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Women's soccer opened its season with a pair of matches in Texas against NCAA Division III opponents, Trinity and Southwestern on August 31 and Sept. 2.

Melanie Rodriguez. The first-year keeper tallied eight saves in her collegiate debut.

Offense was hard to come by for either team, but Oxy mustered one shot in the second half to Trinity's 19 with both Tigers unable to find the net in 90 minutes.

The spectacular defensive performance to open the season saw one shot blocked and forced 25 shots off target.

st minute goal proved to be the decider in the Tigers' getaway game on Labor Day, Monday Sept. 2.

Less than two minutes later, the Tigers suffered a red card from Malia DeCostro, putting them a player-down for the remainder of the contest. Oxy put up 13 shots, seven on goal, in attempt to tie the game, but came up short,

Rodriguez, who was stellar in the opener, surrendered the game's lone goal.

Women's soccer is off until Sept. 14 when they take on Stanton before beginning SCIAC play later that week. Their home opener is set to begin at 7 p.m.
