LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Men's soccer fired off 23 shots, and seven on goal, but failed to find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw to UC Santa Cruz on Sunday, Sept. 8.
Â
The Tigers played this one a man-up for 74 minutes after UC Santa Cruz's Derek Uemura picked up his second yellow card of the match. Oxy had a barrage of great looks in the final five minutes, but found the keepers mits and the crossbar to close out the contest.
Â
Kai Fiedelholtz and
Oury Diane had two of the best looks of the night, both getting a good leg on the ball in the waning minutes. Diane finished with five shots, three on goal. Fiedelholtz showed off his dribbling skills in the 89th minute, maneuvering around multiple Banana Slugs, and into the box. His right foot proved too strong, knocking the clean look above the crossbar.
Â
The Tigers were faced with many missed opportunities, most notably a free kick just outside of the box Oxy was unable to cash in on.
Â
Occidental returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 14, in Aliso Viejo when they take on Soka University at 7 p.m.
