Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball defeats Nelson 66-36 to tally 6th straight win

Los Angeles, CA — Women's basketball hosted the Nelson (Az.) Warriors on Thursday afternoon in Rush Gym.

The Tigers got off to a slow start in the game, but Michelle Launas-Monroy scored 6 of the 9 1st quarter points the Tigers had as they trailed 14-9.

In the 2nd quarter, Paige Yasukochi caught fire from the field, scoring 12 of her game-high 16 points in the quarter to help Oxy go on a 26-9 run in the quarter.

Emily Ko went a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line in the 2nd quarter to also help fuel the offensive run. The first half concluded with Dominique Cabading knocking down a 3-pointer just before the buzzer sounded and Oxy led 35-23 heading into the halftime break.

The Tigers came out with the same high energy to start the 3rd quarter as Cabading hit a nice floater in the paint and Yasukochi knocked down a jumper from the corner.

Oxy's defense was on point in this quarter, only allowing 6 points, while scoring 19 points on offense to create a large lead heading into the 4th.

Cabading was a force on defense in this game for Oxy, totaling 7 of the team's 20 steals. The Tigers kept things rolling in the 4th by outsourcing the Warriors 12-7 in the quarter to win the game by a score of 66-36.

After Yasukochi, the next leading score for Oxy was Lagunas-Monroy who had 10 points while going a perfect 4-4 from the stripe. Ainsley Shelsta led the team in rebounds with 10.
