Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball's offense shines against Caltech

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Oxy men's basketball was in action on Monday afternoon in a 110 rivalry game against the Caltech Beavers.

The game was back and forth and tight for the first 10 minutes of the first half, as Oxy led 19-15 with 10:20 remaining. The Tigers would break out a 9-2 scoring run thanks to 8 combined points from Atticus Boba and Alex McCleery Brown

McCleery Brown made two more shots to continue to lead the Oxy offense, and Nasir Luna also got in on the scoring with a nice 3-pointer in transition.

To close the half, Micah Breaux found Zion Staples open inside for easy buckets on back to back Tiger possessions and Oxy would lead by a score of 41-22 at the halftime break.

The team kept the momentum going coming out of the break as the offense caught fire and broke off a 18-2 scoring run to swell the lead to as high as 35. The Tiger defense was relentless and kept Caltech from putting any scoring runs together to get back in the game.

Oxy would go on to pick up their 2nd conference win of the season by a score of 95-51.

The Tigers were able to score 24 points off turnovers with strong defense that led to easy scores on fast breaks and  also worked their way inside often, scoring 54 points in the paint.

This led to an efficient 52.4% field goal percentage in the game for the Tigers, who also held Caltech to a 32.2% field goal percentage. The scoring was a full team effort in this one, with Alex McCleery Brown (16 points), Nasir Luna (15), Micah Breaux (11), Daniel Ribeiro (13), and Atticus Boba (10) all scoring in double figures.
