LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Cal Lutheran (10-3, 3-2 SCIAC) defeated Occidental (3-10, 1-4 SCIAC) in straight sets on Tuesday night at Rush Gymnasium, winning 25-22, 25-15, 25-22.
Before the game, the Tigers recognize key members of the Occidental community - faculty and staff members who dedicate themselves to serving the Oxy community.
Occidental began the first set with an early advantage, taking the lead through kills by
Anna Curtis-Revelle and
Eliana Channell, as well as capitalizing on a series of Cal Lutheran errors. Strong contributions from
Lila Payne, who facilitated multiple scoring plays, helped the Tigers build a 15-11 lead midway through the set. The Regals called a timeout at that score and followed with a 14-7 run to close the frame.
After a rough second set for the Tigers, Oxy came out swinging in the third. Sloan Shoop continued her prowess on the outside and
Ariana Carranza picked up five kills after posting only one through the first two sets.
The Regals' relentless defensive effort and facilitation of the offense by their two setters closed out the third to secure the sweep.
