LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Occidental College defeated Caltech 14-4 on Wednesday night at De Mandel Aquatics Center, using a strong defensive effort to hold the Beavers scoreless in the third quarter.
Occidental took control early in the match against Caltech, with
Danny Miller scoring the first goal just 21 seconds into the game.
Travis Hughes and Miller extended the lead, making it 3-0.
Zane Derrod added another goal before Caltech's Maxwell Woodruff Vale responded, closing the first quarter at 4-1.Â
In the second quarter, Caltech's Axel Haydt scored, but Occidental answered with three consecutive goals, pushing their lead to 7-2. By the end of the third quarter, Occidental had stretched the margin to 11-2 with contributions from
Max Stone, Hughes, and Derrod. Caltech's Bram Schork found the net in the final quarter, but Occidental maintained their advantage, concluding the game with a 14-4 victory.
Miller led the Occidental offense with four goals on four attempts. Hughes followed closely, contributing three goals and an assist over five shots.
Atticus Wahab-Holles facilitated the attack with two assists and added two sprint wins. In goal,
Will Garcia anchored the defense, making eight saves.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 6-15 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC play. They're back in action on next Wednesday on the road against Claremont-M-S.
