LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Men's water polo dropped its SCIAC Tournament First Round contest with Whittier on Tuesday, November 18 16-11 at De Mandel Aquatics Center.
Â
After a tightly contested first quarter, with the two teams trading goals, Whittier pulled away, scoring seven straight goals from the end of the first through the end of the second quarter. The Tigers added a score at the end of the half, trailing 10-4 at the break.
Â
Whittier continued to apply pressure on both ends of the pool in the second half. The Poets' defense stifled the Tigers all evening. Oxy struggled to get the ball into the set and failed to get good looks throughout middle parts of the third. At the end of the quarter,
Zane Derrod and
Max Stone notched scores to bring the Tigers back within six.
Â
In the fourth, after trading goals to start the frame, Derrod cut the deficit to five with four to play, then
Danny Miller drew a five meter and
Lars Schubert brought the Tigers within four, but a few tough defensive stands from the Poets on subsequent possessions halted any Tiger comeback.
Â
Jake Eulenhoefer led the way with two goals while six other Tigers tallied goals on the evening.
Â
With the loss, the Tigers end the 2025 season 11-20 overall and 6-6 in SCIAC play.
