LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Women's basketball dropped its second meeting with the Claremont-M-S Athenas on senior night in Rush, 67-58.
Â
Before the game,
Michelle Lagunas-Monroy and
Alyanna McGrath were honored for their dedication to the Oxy women's basketball program over the last four years.
Â
After that, it was a tough night for the Tigers on both sides of the ball. Scoring came at a premium in the first quarter, ending the frame at 11-11, but a 28-point CMS outburst in the second quarter was the difference in the contest.
Â
Oxy shot under 40% from the field, struggling to mount a comeback throughout regulation, while allowing CMS to shoot above its season-average 36% from the field at a 41% clip.
Â
The Tigers surrendered 12 offensive rebounds that resulted in 14 second chance points for the Athenas.
Â
A tough loss for the Tigers, who return to the .500 mark in SCIAC play, after a big-time win over Cal Lutheran on Monday, February 10. They face Redlands on Saturday, then close the season at Pomona-Pitzer February 19.
