LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Softball bounced back after two road losses a day ago to sweep a doubleheader with the Stevens Ducks on Sunday, February 16.
Â
Game 1 – W, 3-2
Â
An
Alysha Wagner go-ahead single with two on and two out in the sixth inning gave the Tigers the lead for good as this back-and-forth affair came down to the wire.
Â
Zada Day-Adams, who pitched five innings, allowing one run in relief, shut the door. After a rocky start to the seventh, Day-Adams retired three-straight Ducks to stifle a pair of walks to open the frame.
Â
Each time the Ducks scored, Oxy answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. In the first,
Jordan Lebsock scored on an error after a
Philycia Pedrosa single. In the fourth,
Sydney Crespo bunted home a run to tie it at two.
Â
Anna Kim was stellar at the plate in her Bell Field debut, going 3-for-3 and scoring the winning run. Wagner was the only other Tiger with two or more hits going 2-for-4.
Â
Game 2 – W, 8-0 (Six Innings)
Â
A combined shutout for
Justice Tiberi,
Isabella Harding and Day-Adams saw only four Ducks reach base via hits. Tiberi in the start went three scoreless and got some help from Harding in the fourth, who relieved the sophomore, getting three quick outs to get Oxy in the dugout.
Â
The Tigers' offense exploded for five runs in the fifth. After scoring one in the first and two in the second, the Tigers went dormant in the middle innings.
Â
A hit parade erupted late to force the run-rule victory, a Harding RBI single, followed by a throwing error put her on third. Racing home on a fielder's choice notched Oxy's fourth run. With two on Wagner cleared the bases with a double then Kim brought Wagner home on a single to end the game.
Â
Wagner and Kim combined for nine hits on the day. While Day-Adams pitched seven innings of one-run ball.
Â
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, February 18 to take on Brandeis at home.
