LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Occidental baseball team played host to the CMS Stags for the first SCIAC game of the 2025 season on Friday afternoon.
CMS jumped out to an early lead thanks in part to a 3-run home run, but Oxy would put up 2 runs in their half of the 2nd inning to cut into the lead.
With the bases loaded, Ben Fizgerald hit a ball hard straight up the middle that went off the pitcher's glove and to the shortstop who was able to get an out at 3rd base as a run came across to score.
Thomas Munch would then single to right field to bring in Nick Gonzales for the second Tiger run of the frame.
The Stags had a big 3rd inning and would not look back, going on to take the game by a score of 14-3 in 7 innings.
Taylor Cann had the Tigers second RBI single of the game in the 4th inning that brought home Gonzales for his second run of the game.
Jeffery Cambra was 1 for 2 at the plate with a run scored. Thomas Munch went 2 for 4 in the game as well.
Oxy was able to get runners on base with 8 hits in the game but also left 8 runners on base throughout the game. Aiden Alfers had a quality appearance out of the bullpen, throwing 3.2 innings while only allowing one hit and striking out 3 batters.
The Tigers will travel to Whittier College to play at a neutral site while the Stags will be the home team in tomorrow's doubleheader at 11am and 2:30pm.
