LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Women's lacrosse dropped a close contest with Redlands Friday, February 28, 15-14.
Â
After a nearly one-hour delay to the original 7 p.m. start time, the Tigers were off to the races in the first few minutes of the contest. Oxy scored four of the game's first five goals to take a commanding three score lead in the early minutes.
Olivia Okamoto, who had four on the night and is now just as many away from 100 career goals, tallied two in the first quarter.
Â
Redlands answered with a 6-1 run over the next 11 minutes of play, and that would set the tone for the back-and-forth matchup the two teams faced all night.
Â
Trailing by one heading into the half, the Tigers started the third like they did the first, regaining a 10-9 lead with three-straight scores.
Dylan Herbert gave the Tigers a lead midway through the third period before another Redlands scoring burst.
Â
The Tigers took another lead early in the fourth, but it was all Bulldogs from there on out, taking a two-score lead with less than three minutes to play, proving insurmountable for the Tigers.
Â
It was a chippy game on both sides with 30 fouls and 15 cards. Both goalies notched five saves, while the Tigers won the draw controls battle 17-15, but lost the turnover battle 21-17.
Â
Okamoto led in scoring with
Maeve Moylan and
Ella Skoglund close behind with three goals apiece.
Â
The Tigers will look to get back into the win column against Albion on Monday, March 3 at home. Gametime is slated for 7 p.m.
