LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A big SCIAC matchup for women's water polo, facing No. 3 Chapman on Wednesday, March 19 at De Mandel Aquatics Center. The Tigers fell 9-6.
Â
Like Tuesday night against Macalester, it was another tight defensive battle through the first half and into the third quarter.
Â
Alexandra Moye was stellar in the first half, saving two five-meter penalty shots and a pair of one-on-one opportunities. She tallied double-digit saves for the fourth time this season, picking up 13.
Â
Oxy trailed 4-3 at half, and Chapman scored the first goal of the second half, but
Koko Butcher notched a key score midway through the third quarter to cut the deficit back to one. However, a 3-0 run to close the third in less than two minutes time gave the Panthers the lead for good.
Â
Butcher and reigning SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week
Tori Carlson, led the Tigers with four and two goals respectively.
Hannah Lee did a nice job spreading the ball around, notching a pair of assists.
Â
With the loss, Oxy fell to 6-9 on the season and 2-2 in SCIAC play. The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, hosting Caltech.
