LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Baseball was back in action on Saturday morning for a doubleheader of two 7-inning games against the Linfield University Wildcats.
GAME 1, L 16-3
The Linfield offense put together a strong showing in game one, scoring 16 runs to secure the win.
Oxy was able to score in the 2nd inning on an RBI single from Anthony Sereno, which at the time brought Oxy to within three runs.
The Tiger's second run came on another single from Sereno, and the Tigers scored again on an RBI single from Thomas Munch that brought home Sereno to score.
GAME 2, W 5-0
Oxy picked up the win in game three of the weekend series, led by a great performance on the mound from Riley Holcomb.
An RBI single in the 1st inning from Griffen Rogers got the Tigers on the board first, and RBI singles from Munch and Nick Gonzalez in the 2nd inning extended the lead to 4-0 as two runs were brought home on Gonzalez' knock.
Munch continued to be a run producer for Oxy by adding an RBI double to his day's work in the 4th to bring the score to 5-0.
The game would end after 6 innings due to time constraints, which allowed Holcomb to toss a shortened complete game shutout as he threw all 6 innings while scattering 7 hits and allowing no runs, no walks and striking out four batters.
Holcomb has been a force in the starting rotation this season as he is now 4-0 on the year with a 3.19 ERA with 28 strikeouts for the year.
Oxy will resume SCIAC play on Friday, April 4th when they travel to Orange, CA to face the Chapman Panthers before playing a doubleheader at Anderson Field on Saturday, April 5th.
