LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Women's lacrosse won its fourth SCIAC contest on Wednesday, April 9 at Patterson Field, 15-12 over Chapman, taking the season series over the Panthers 2-0.
Â
Through the first 17 minutes it was a back-and-forth affair with four lead changes. Chapman tied the game at four with a goal early in the second quarter, but it was all Oxy from there.
Â
The turning point came when
Maeve Moylan rushed the keeper on a Panther clear attempt. Moylan forced the ball out of the goalie's stick, leaving the goalie on the ground and a wide-open net. The goal started a 7-1 run for the Tigers that lasted until the middle of the third quarter.
Â
Leading 12-6, the Tigers got in some trouble late. A 6-1 Panther run put the game within one goal – 13-12 – but the Tigers shut them out from there, scoring a pair of goals to cement their victory.
Â
Olivia Okamoto led the Tigers with four goals, but
Gabriella Acker tallied the most points. Four assists and three goals for the senior played an instrumental role in the win. Moylan and
Ella Skoglund each added a pair of goals. Moylan caused four turnovers and picked up four ground balls.
Â
Andie Angelacci led the Tigers defense with a stellar game in the goal. She picked up six saves and two ground balls.
Â
With the win, the Tigers improved to 8-5 overall and 4-4 in SCIAC play. With four games left in the season, the Tigers look to make a push for the fourth seed in the SCIAC tournament. They currently sit in that spot with a big game on senior day against Whittier. Gametime is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12.
