LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Westcliff (2-8) edged Occidental College (2-5, 0-0 SCIAC) in a four-set match at Rush Gymnasium on Wednesday night, claiming the victory 23-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-18.
The game was won by the Warriors in the third frame. After jumping out in front of Westcliff 24-20, aided by three emphatic
Jasmine Shum kills, the Warriors strung off a 6-0 run, going ahead 2-1 at the time before taking the fourth set.
Occidental opened the first set with a narrow 25-23 win over Westcliff, highlighted by a critical performance from Shum, who delivered the decisive kill to secure the set victory.
Sloane Shoop and
Kendall Taylor orchestrated a series of pivotal plays midway through the set, including a sequence where Shoop notched consecutive kills, pushing the Tigers ahead.Â
The second set began with a strong showing from the Warriors, as they raced to an 8-0 lead, stealing all of Oxy's momentum. The Tigers closed the set at a 19-17 advantage, but the early deficit proved insurmountable.
The Tigers closed the match with a 25-18 loss, trailing by at least six throughout the frame behind an 8-2 Warrior start.
