LOS ANGELES — Occidental College and Hope International University played to a 1-1 draw on Friday at W.C. Patterson Field at Jack Kemp Stadium. Occidental took an early lead with a goal in the first half, while Hope International responded with an equalizer before halftime. Both teams were unable to break the deadlock in the second half despite nine total shots from Occidental, including four on target.
The first half started with a tense exchange of attacks, as Hope International's Diego Albanez scored early in the 3rd minute to put the visitors ahead. Occidental responded with determination, and
Devin Bening leveled the match in the 19th minute, assisted by
Elijah Edelman.
Joseph Bassett made a key save in the 24th minute to keep the score even, and Occidental finished the half strong with a series of shots and corner kicks, maintaining pressure on the Hope International defense.
The second half began with Occidental maintaining a steady defense despite accumulating several fouls, including one by
Noah Armour just 23 seconds in. Occidental's
Justin Nishimoto had a promising attempt in the 60th minute, but it was saved by Hope International's goalkeeper, Berlin Torres. Despite persistent efforts from the home team, including a shot by
Ayden Rieke-Wey in the 72nd minute, the match remained tied at 1-1 as both teams were unable to break the deadlock by the end of regulation.

The next challenge for the Tigers takes them on the road to La Verne, CA, where they will face the University of La Verne on September 17 in the SCIAC opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. as the team continues their journey through the season.
