BOSTON, MA — UMass Boston defeated Occidental 4-0 on Monday at BC High JV Field. The Beacons scored three goals in the first half, with the game-winner among them, and added a fourth goal in the second half. UMB recorded 14 shots with seven on goal, while Occidental managed 15 shots with three on target. UMass Boston's defense held strong, resulting in a shutout for the home team.
The first half saw an active start with Joseph Bassett making an early save at two minutes, but the Beacons took the lead shortly after with Rafael Gross scoring in the third minute. Despite a strong offensive push from Occidental, including multiple shots from Elijah Edelman and a notable corner kick just past the 27-minute mark, UMB capitalized on their opportunities, extending their lead to 3-0 by halftime. Charlie Miller and Devin Bening each took shots for Occidental, but they were unable to convert.
The second half opened with a defensive effort from Joseph Bassett, who saved a shot just 33 seconds in. Occidental's offense showed persistence with Elijah Edelman firing a shot on goal at the 54-minute mark, though it was saved by UMass Boston's keeper. Despite several attempts, including shots by Alex Yu and Noah Armour in the 67th minute, Occidental was unable to find the back of the net, ending the half without a goal.

Occidental fell to 1-2-0 on their trip to Massachusetts after the defeat. UMass Boston improved to 1-0-2 on the season.
