LA JOLLA, Calif. — Men's water polo started the 2025 season by traveling to La Jolla, CA to play four games in the Triton Invitational.
Game 1 vs. Long Beach State University; L 3-25
In the first game of the tournament, Oxy fell to LBSU, 3-25. Lars Schubert, Max Stone, and Patrick Gardner each contributed a goal for Occidental College in the game, making them the team's top scorers.
Game 2 vs. George Washington University; L 8-20
In the second game of the day on Friday August 29th, Oxy fell to George Washington University with a final score of 8-20 at the Canyonview Aquatic Center.
Travis Hughes led the offensive effort with four goals for the Tigers in the game. Ocean Pogorel and Max Stone each contributed with a goal alongside Danny Miller and Jake Eulenhoefer, who also added a goal apiece.
Game 3 vs UC San Diego; L 3-20
The Tigers dropped a game playing against the UC San Diego Tritons on Saturday morning.
Travis Hughes contributed to Occidental's efforts by scoring one goal on two shots and securing two steals. Jack Schroeder was a key defensive player with eight saves in goal and one steal.
Zane Derrod provided a balanced offensive performance with one goal and one assist on four shots, while also recording a steal. Jake Eulenhoefer added to the scoring with a goal from three shots. Lucas Washburn assisted on a goal and demonstrated speed by winning a sprint.
Game 4 vs. Navy; L 6-18
The final game of the tournament for Oxy saw the Tigers face off with the Navy Midshipmen.
Travis Hughes led the Tigers with two goals in the game. Max Stone, Danny Miller, and Quin Concannon each added a goal, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Lucas Washburn also scored a goal in the 4th period.
Hughes also recorded one exclusion, while Stone had two exclusions in the game.
