Women's volleyball cruises past West Coast Baptist in home opener

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Occidental College swept West Coast Baptist College 25-9, 25-9, 25-7 on Thursday at Rush Gymnasium. The Tigers' efficient performance featured a commanding .456 attack percentage and 23 service aces. The Eagles struggled offensively, finishing with a negative attack percentage of -.075.

Occidental started the first with a commanding performance, highlighted by an early 6-0 run at the hands of Elizabeth Hermosillo, who served four consecutive points, including a service ace. Eyleen Sanchez further extended the lead with a series of four service aces, contributing significantly to an 8-1 scoring stretch that put the Tigers firmly in control. Jasmine Shum sealed the set with her third kill, ending the set with a 25-9 victory, as Lila Payne's playmaking resulted in multiple assists throughout the frame.

The Tigers surged in the second, capitalizing on a significant run fueled by Anna Curtis-Revelle, who tallied three service aces and a kill, contributing to an early 9-3 lead. Payne was instrumental, delivering multiple key assists, including a kill by Shum to clinch the set at 25-9. The Eagles struggled to halt the momentum as Payne's service ace extended the advantage, underscoring the Tigers' dominant performance.

The Tigers jumped out to a commanding 13-4 lead in the final frame. Eliana Channell and Kendall Taylor added to the momentum with key kills, while Jaleen Tseng's service ace brought the Tigers to a 24-6 advantage. The set concluded with a decisive kill by Katelyn Cajigas, securing a 25-7 victory.
