PASADENA, Calif. — Occidental (6-6, 1-2 SCIAC) defeated Caltech (2-10, 0-6 SCIAC), 77-59, at Braun Athletic Center, dominating the paint with 46 points and securing a 19-point rebounding advantage.
Zeynep Goktepe led the Caltech team with 22 points, shooting 8-for-11 from the field, including 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Kyra Phaychanpheng contributed 13 points, making six field goals and recording two blocks. Isabella Lo also added 13 points with two steals and connected on two of her three 3-point attempts. Anamaria Robertson facilitated the offense with five assists and collected three steals, adding seven points to her performance.
The Tigers opened the quarter with a strong offensive performance, taking a 3-2 lead early on
Dominique Cabading's 3-pointer following
Dara Tokeshi's assist at 9:17. The team maintained momentum with a 7-0 run, highlighted by
Paige Yasukochi's fast break layup and Cabading's contribution in the paint, extending the lead to 10-4.
Ainsley Shelsta added to the advantage with a layup at 2:03, pushing the score to 20-9. The Tigers held a solid 22-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Occidental surged ahead in the second quarter with a decisive run, highlighted by a 13-0 stretch. Yasukochi's 3-pointer at 6:40 and subsequent layup contributed to the momentum. The team dominated inside, scoring 10 points in the paint and securing 14 rebounds, which helped them build a significant lead. Despite turnovers, the Tigers maintained control and ended the quarter leading 42-28.
Oxy seized control early in the third quarter with a 10–0 run, highlighted by Cabading's layup at 9:13 and Tokeshi's 3-pointer assisted by
Kayla Ikuma at 8:49. Yasukochi added a crucial defensive block at 8:31, maintaining the momentum. The Beavers briefly interrupted the scoring, but Occidental responded with another surge, as Cabading contributed with both a layup and a steal leading to a fast-break score at 3:25. The Tigers outscored Caltech 19–9 in the quarter, extending their lead to 61–37 as the game moved into the final period.
Occidental maintained control in the fourth quarter with an early sequence featuring a layup by
Emily Ko at 8:54, followed by a layup from
Cristina Sepulveda at 7:35, widening their lead.
Megan Delgado further solidified the advantage with back-to-back three-pointers, assisted by
Ila Giblin and Sepulveda, at 5:08 and 4:25, respectively. Despite a late scoring surge from the Beavers, including several three-pointers by Goktepe, Occidental's defense held firm.
Lillian Spector capped off the game with a fast-break layup, assisted by
Micah Elegores, at 0:23. The game ended with Occidental claiming a 77–59 victory, sealing a decisive performance.
Occidental is now 6-6 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC play following the victory. Caltech falls to 2-10 overall and 0-6 in SCIAC competition.
