LOS ANGELES — Occidental College (13-4) secured a decisive 15-5 victory over Curry College (1-4) on Friday, highlighted by an explosive 11-run eighth inning at home.
Danny Leyva's run on Aaron Siegal's sacrifice fly gave the Colonels an early lead in the first inning. The Tigers responded in the second inning when
Tyler Kubo scored on
Anthony Sereno's fielder's choice, leveling the score at 1-1.
After Curry scored two runs in the third, including a homer by Siegal, Occidental tied the game again in the fourth.
Griffen Rogers' sacrifice fly brought in
Jackson Short, and
Evann Smith's bases-loaded walk allowed
Antonio Longobardi to cross home, making it 3-3.
The Colonels regained the lead in the fifth with two runs, but the Tigers narrowed the gap in the sixth.

Benjamin Fitzgerald's single, moving the score to 5-4 in favor of Curry.
In the eighth inning, Occidental's offense exploded. Smith and
Thomas Munch scored on Fitzgerald's double, followed by a series of hits and errors that allowed 11 runs in the inning. The inning ended with a commanding 15-5 lead for Occidental.
Occidental secured a decisive victory with a final score of 15-5.
Lincoln Lyons pitched 5 innings, allowing 10 hits and 5 earned runs while striking out 3 batters and walking 4. Despite some challenges, he managed to induce 5 groundouts and 4 flyouts, showing resilience on the mound.
Malcolm Munnich provided stability with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief that allowed Oxy to remain in the game, striking out 3 and allowing just 2 hits, earning the win in the process.
Smith posted a strong performance, collecting three hits and driving in one run. Fitzgerald led the team with four RBIs, including a double, while also contributing three hits. Longobardi scored twice and drove in two runs with a double. Kubo reached base with three hit-by-pitches, adding two hits and scoring twice.
Occidental has a record of 13-4 on the year now and will be back in action to wrap up the three-game set with Curry College tomorrow March 14th. First pitch is set for 11AM.
