LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Occidental fell to Whittier College 12-7 at De Mandel Aquatics Center on Saturday. Despite Occidental's 31 shots, Whittier's strong performance included five power-play goals.
Whittier College initiated the match with a dominant first quarter, as Alexandra Haluska scored, followed by goals from Jayz Tomisa and Kayla Arias, establishing a 3-0 lead. The Tigers responded with
Emma Wilderman finding the net, narrowing the gap to 3-1. Whittier closed the first quarter with Arias scoring again, bringing the score to 4-1. In the third quarter,
Talia Thomas of Occidental scored twice, helping to close the margin to 5-4. However, Whittier pulled away in the fourth quarter with a series of five consecutive goals, including two from Haluska, leading to a final score of 12-7. The Poets capitalized on their power-play opportunities, converting five, while Occidental managed to score on one of its power plays.
Wilderman scored twice on two attempts, showcasing efficiency in her gameplay. Thomas led the offensive charge with three goals from ten shots, also contributing a steal.
Victoria Duncan added to the scoring with two goals on four shots and recorded a steal.
Mia Bananis, in the goalie position, provided stability with nine saves and assisted on two goals, enhancing team play.
