CLAREMONT, Calif. — Occidental fell to No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer with a final score of 5-22 on Saturday at Haldeman Pool. Occidental managed three power-play goals but could not overcome Pomona-Pitzer's dominant performance.
Pomona-Pitzer established early dominance, opening with a 4-0 run in the first quarter, highlighted by Ayva Magna's two goals and a goal from Lisbon Zeigler assisted by B Vivienne Wood. Occidental responded with consecutive goals by
Emma Wilderman and
Lucy Worden, narrowing the deficit to 4-2. However, Pomona-Pitzer extended its lead with Ava Gurney scoring twice to end the first quarter at 6-2. The second quarter saw the home team continue its offensive surge, scoring six unanswered goals, including two from Katie Hugar, bringing the halftime score to 12-2. Occidental managed to add three more goals in the second half, but Pomona-Pitzer's consistent scoring, including a final quarter goal by Sophia Berger, secured a decisive 22-5 victory. Pomona-Pitzer outshot Occidental 36-20, capitalizing on six power-play opportunities and a penalty shot.
Lucy Worden led with two goals on four shots and added an assist, while also recording two steals.
Talia Thomas contributed two goals, finding the net on two of her six attempts.
Jillian Carlson facilitated the offense with two assists and collected one steal.
Mia Colabianchi made a defensive impact by securing three steals and drawing one exclusion.
