LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Occidental (2-9, 2-2) fell to Salem University (3-4) with a decisive 17-4 loss on Thursday at De Mandel Aquatics Center. The team managed to score four goals on 19 shots, including one power-play goal and one penalty shot. Salem University scored five of its goals on power plays, capitalizing on the home team's 10 exclusions.
Occidental took an early lead when
Victoria Duncan scored in the first quarter. Salem University quickly responded, with Mackenzie Hamilton equalizing, assisted by Kara Wicht. The Tigers then went on a dominant run, scoring nine consecutive goals, including a penalty shot by Lucy Bramwell, ending the first half with an 11-1 lead. The home team managed to break the streak when Duncan scored again in the third quarter, followed by a goal from
Talia Thomas. Despite their efforts, the Tigers maintained control, with Courtney Repinz adding three more goals, including one in the third quarter, to solidify Salem's lead. Salem University concluded the game with a 17-4 victory, outshooting the home team 32-19.
