LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Occidental College (5-8, 1-7) fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (10-3, 7-1) with a final score of 19–2 on Saturday at Patterson Field. The Tigers celebrated the team's seven seniors before gametime.
The opening quarter began with Claremont-M-S taking control early, as Ella Seidel scored the first goal at 13:37 with an assist from Grace Minturn. Claremont-M-S continued to assert its offensive dominance, with Seidel and Minturn each adding goals, Minturn assisted by Kate Larson. Occidental responded with a goal from
Olivia Okamoto, assisted by
Aubrey Chang at 6:07, but Claremont-M-S maintained pressure. Seidel completed a hat-trick with a goal at 4:55, assisted by Cate Lewison, and Julia Ryan added a free position goal at 4:09. Claremont-M-S led 6–1 at the end of the first quarter.
Claremont-M-S dominated the second quarter, scoring seven unanswered goals to extend its lead over Occidental. Ella Brown opened the scoring at 13:33, assisted by Maya Mihara, and Kate Larson followed with two goals, one at 13:05 and another from a free position shot at 10:27. Julia Ryan was instrumental in maintaining possession for Claremont-M-S, securing multiple draw controls throughout the quarter. Occidental struggled offensively, with Okamoto's last-second shot being saved, solidifying the visitors' commanding advantage heading into the next quarter.
Claremont-M-S dominated the third quarter, extending its lead with four unanswered goals. The quarter began with a goal from Brown at 14:16, followed by another from Seidel at 10:50, showcasing their offensive prowess. Mihara contributed with a goal at 5:55, assisted by Rylie Hack, and Amelia Ulmer capped the scoring for the quarter with a goal at 4:42, assisted by Seidel. Occidental struggled to capitalize on its opportunities, with Sanya Arora making several crucial saves for Claremont-M-S, including a stop on a shot by
Ava Whelan at 12:12. Despite efforts from players like
