GAMBIER, Ohio — Occidental defeated Kenyon 2-0 on Sunday at Mavec Field. Occidental scored once in each half and held Kenyon scoreless despite being outshot 22-8. Kenyon generated 16 second-half shots and seven corners, but Occidental got through a late stretch from 81:36 to 88:53 with seven opposing attacking actions and no goal.

Prior to the match, Kenyon was 4-0 while outscoring opponents 13-1, including a 2-0 victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Friday. It was their first time being held scoreless all season.

Occidental opened the scoring at 40:40, when Kent Ortiz finished off an assist from Cristian Granados to put the visitors ahead 1-0. Earlier, Occidental absorbed Kenyon's early pressure, including three corner kicks by 14:33, while keeping the match scoreless. 

The Tigers then generated their own chances, with Piero Falconi Pujalt forcing a team save at 16:19, Andrew Lee putting a shot on frame at 22:51 and Falconi Pujalt testing Matthew Kayser again at 29:09 as Occidental earned a series of corners. Carlos Abram added a save on Andrew Adams in the 36th minute, and Occidental carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Occidental added the only goal of the second half at 78:29, when Ortiz scored off an assist from Elijah Edelman to make it 2-0. Earlier, Occidental withstood a sustained Kenyon push, including a shot off the right woodwork at 56:26, two team saves and multiple corner kicks before Yordan Marinov put a shot on frame in the 70th minute. 

Edelman also had a shot miss right shortly before setting up Ortiz's goal. After Cooper Gersch received a red card at 79:47, Occidental defended through Kenyon's late corner kicks and five shots from the 82nd minute on, closing out a 2-0 win.
