IRVINE, Calif. — Occidental defeated Westcliff (CA) 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-23) on Wednesday. The Tigers totaled 11.0 blocks and held Westcliff (CA) to a .049 hitting percentage.
The Tigers broke open the first set with seven straight points, moving from a 13-10 edge to a 20-10 lead as
Kendall Taylor served the final six points of the run.
Audrey Makler and
Sloane Shoop teamed on three blocks during that stretch, helping the Tigers keep Westcliff (CA) from closing the gap.
Elizabeth Hermosillo later served out the set, including an ace, as the Tigers finished off a 25-13 win.
The Tigers scored the first three points of the second set, getting consecutive
Sloane Shoop kills after an opening Westcliff (CA) attack error, and stayed in front for a 25-18 win.
Corinne Van Haeren had six kills in the set, and
Chloe Jeong added back-to-back service aces to put the Tigers ahead 21-11. Makler closed the set with a kill from Taylor.
The Tigers closed the third set at 25-23, with Makler finishing a Jeong assist after Westcliff (CA) moved within 24-23. The Tigers answered a 21-21 tie with an
Anna Curtis-Revelle kill, a Westcliff (CA) attack error and a
Lauren Neely-Curtis-Revelle block to reach 24-22 before converting the final point.
